All-Years Sports Day Breaks 37 School Records

Sports day2We held our second sports day competition last week, with over 1,000 pupils across both the primary and secondary phases competing for their hubs in various athletics events.

Not only were all of the pupils' attitude and commitment to their hubs outstanding, their behaviour was equally impressive.

Brilliant skill-acquisition

Sports day4During the morning session, children from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 competed alongside the children from years 7 and 8 in both the track and field events. The children from Key Stage 2 showed brilliant skill-acquisition which enabled them to complete each of their events with outstanding precision.

Our morning session for years 7 and 8 really set the standard for the rest of the day with over 15 school records being broken.

Competitive and enjoyable

The second session saw some of our youngest children compete alongside some of our oldest at Harris Garrard Academy with reception, years 1, 2, 9 and 10 all taking their turn to win Harris points for their hubs.

Year 9 and 10 pupils competed in track events, shot put, javelin and high jump with school records again being broken. Pupils showed great support for fellow pupils competing in all events, making the day competitive and enjoyable for all of the pupils involved.

Mr Taylor would like to make a special mention of the children in Key Stage 1, who showed maturity beyond their years.

It was then time for the final session of the day which saw the 100 metre sprint events for the boys and girls in Year 10. For this session, all children from both primary and secondary were out on the field showing support and encouraging the competitors from their hubs. Yet again records were broken. In total, over 37 records were broken throughout the day.

Showcase relay event

Sports day1At the end of this session, it was time for the showcase event! Pupils competed in an all-through relay race for their hub. This consisted of one pupil from each year, starting with reception and finishing with Year 12. This event completed a successful and enjoyable sports day for Harris Garrard academy with Enterprise being crowned as the 2019 sports day champions.

The final results were:

4th place – World Studies with 321 points

3rd place – Creative Voice with 347 points

2nd place – Active Science with 391 points

1st place – Enterprise with 424 points

Finally we would like to say a huge congratulation to all pupils who participated in Wednesday’s events. These events would not have ran as smoothly and successfully as they did without the help of the outstanding Year 12 pupils who took on leadership and officiating roles thought the day.
