Are you looking for a Reception place in September 2026?
Welcome to where the journey begins for students at Harris Garrard Academy. Our Reception classes are the perfect place to start with us and we're really excited to welcome you and your little ones.
We understand the importance of choosing the right school and want to support you on that process by providing you with as much information as possible and lots of opportunities to explore our school with your child.
This begins with our open events, lead by our Headteacher, Mr Sheppard, who will guide you around the school, giving you a sense of the daily life at Harris Garrard Academy.
Your child is more than welcome to attend so that they can explore the magical learning spaces with the current Reception students. Those lucky enough to secure a place will then be invited to our Teddy Bear's Picnic, where children meet the friendly and welcoming staff and we can begin to learn about your child before they start with us in September. From there, we have a bespoke programme of integration, resulting in a seamless transition to their first days at school.

Our Reception classrooms are full of fun, learning and exploration with zones set up to encourage students into all aspects of their learning. These are designed and led by our superb Early Years team and under their leadership, students in Reception have achieved 20% above their national peers for the last three years in a row.
Exploration through play is at the heart of our large outdoor and indoor learning spaces and is enhanced by a systematic phonics curriculum designed to help students quickly gain confidence in reading. Parent Workshops are placed throughout the year to help you keep up with the curriculum. Our staff are also available every drop-off and collection time to discuss how your child is getting on.
