Subject Information

Every student joins us with a unique set of GCSE results, interests and future ambitions.

At our Sixth Form we believe in offering a programme that works for you, not against you. That’s why we offer three distinct pathways, designed to match different goals and strengths.

While most of our courses are A Levels, we also offer a range of Applied General qualifications. These courses are ideal for students with clear vocational goals or for those who prefer a more practical, coursework-based approach to learning.

A Levels follow a traditional model of assessment, primarily through external examinations, while Applied General courses include a greater proportion of coursework and continuous assessment.

Our curriculum is broad and balanced and designed to open doors to a wide range of future opportunities, from top universities and higher-level apprenticeships to direct entry into professional careers. Whatever your chosen pathway, we’ll help you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed in the next stage of your journey.

Our pathways

A Level Pathway

Students wishing to study three/four A Level subjects (our A Level Pathway) must have a minimum of seven grade 5s in full GCSE or equivalent and meet the grade criteria for the chosen subjects.

Mixed Pathway

Students wishing to study a combination of A Level and Level 3 qualifications (our Mixed Pathway) must have a minimum of five grade 5s or a equivalent qualification. For A-levels, students must also meet the grade criteria for their chosen subjects.

Vocational Pathway

Students wishing to study solely Level 3 qualifications (our Vocational Pathway) must have a minimum of five grade 4s at GCSE or equivalent.  Students must also achieve a grade 4 in English or Maths, and no lower than 3 in either.

Extended Project Qualification

Students can opt to study the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) alongside any of the pathways above. This is worth half an A level and involves students planning and producing an independent project of their choosing. This can be a written dissertation, investigation, performance, or an artifact.

Enrolment from the age of 17/18 is at the discretion of the Academy. We will take into account the student's most recent academic results. In most cases students will only be accepted onto Vocational Level 3 courses unless there are exceptional circumstances.
