Science
Science is the lens through which we can understand our world.
The chance to explore this fascinating subject, through investigations and using our superb facilities, makes such a difference to students and is one of the reaons we have such exceptional results across the school.
Having dedicated science labs in our primary and secondary phases allows all students to become scientists, from our youngest children in Reception, who explore the natural world, to our oldest students who complete complex investigations using a range of state-of-the-art resources.

“We were learning about the digestive system in the messiest way possible, I think! I had to create a way for the food to digest on my own!” Ellie, Year 4
Our science lessons are designed to provide students of all ages with key knowledge and investigation skills so that they can explore the scientific principles underpinning Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
The curriculum is expertly designed to provide our students with foundational knowledge in our primary phase that can be build on in complexity and understanding as they move into our secondary lessons.
Students begin their secondary science journey by reinforcing safety and building on Key Stage 1 and 2 knowledge to create a strong foundation. Key Stage 3 introduces topics such as cells, mixtures, and light, progressing to more complex concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics while developing enquiry, logic, and mathematical skills. In Year 9, students transition into GCSE content, deepening understanding through themes like evolution, chemical energy, and electromagnetism.
At Key Stage 4, they study AQA Paper 1 and 2 topics across biology, chemistry, and physics, supported by regular assessments and enrichment to prepare for Post-16 study. A-Level courses in all three sciences follow the AQA specification, emphasising advanced theory, practical competency through CPAC, and higher-level mathematical skills, ensuring readiness for further education and careers in science.
“My chemistry lessons really challenge me to think critically and solve complex problems. It’s a cognitive challenge that keeps me engaged, and I know the skills I’m developing will help me succeed in a future career in the medical field.” Andrew, Year 12

Forest School - learning outside the classroom
We’re lucky enough to have an expanse of outdoor learning spaces. From a wildlife pond area and vegetable garden to forest wildernesses in our campus, we are able to provide a wealth of learning opportunities outside the classroom.
This starts with our Early Years students who explore these areas in their Nature Nurture sessions and builds as they begin Forest School in their later science lessons. The whole school also participates in outdoor classroom days where we take all the learning outside – no matter the weather!
