Design & Technology
Our DT curriculum is built around the opportunities to research, explore and create.
With dedicated spaces for woodwork, food technology and IT, we’re able to provide a hands-on approach to Design Technology for all our students.
Primary DT - exploring materials

In Reception, this starts in our construction zones where we can explore materials, build and even create huge creations with a wealth of resources. Students then learn the processes involved in creating designs based on a brief, how to use a range of tools and then how they can create their own products.
The tools grow in complexity as the students grow and it’s wonderful to see the delicious healthy meals, mechanical devices and coding supplemented products our children can produce. For those with a real passion for DT we even have a Robotics Club available for students to attend.
Secondary DT - building confidence and creativity
Our Key Stage 3 and 4 Design & Technology curriculum is carefully structured to ensure accessibility for all abilities while promoting progress and challenge.
Each scheme of work covers essential core skills to prepare students for the demands of GCSE, with opportunities to deepen understanding through reasoning, problem-solving, and links across the subject. Our Design Technology GCSE provides excellent preparation for AS Technology and a wide range of post-16 Art, Design, and Technology courses, as well as careers in fields such as engineering, construction, architecture, teaching, and digital design.
Year 7 acts as the foundation year, introducing a broad range of topics at a manageable depth. Year 8 focuses on development, expanding the range of materials and processes, while Year 9 emphasises realisation, allowing students to apply and consolidate their learning. Throughout Key Stage 3, students follow a diverse set of themes outlined in the long-term plan, ensuring a rich and engaging experience that builds confidence and creativity.
