Drama
Our Drama curriculum at Harris Garrard Academy is exceptional because it goes beyond performance to develop confidence, creativity, and collaboration – skills that benefit students both on stage and in life.
Through exploring a wide range of plays, texts, and stimuli, students learn to work as a team, think critically, and express themselves with clarity and conviction.
Theatre trips and live performance experiences deepen their appreciation of the art form, while opportunities to devise original work and perform in co-productions nurture independence and innovation.
At Key Stage 4, the AQA Drama course combines rigorous academic study with practical creativity. Students master performance techniques, analyse live theatre, and engage with influential practitioners such as Stanislavski, Brecht, and Artaud. With components focused on devising, text interpretation, and written analysis, learners develop a rich understanding of theatre and transferable skills like communication, problem-solving, and resilience – preparing them for success in exams and opening pathways to careers in the arts, media, education, and beyond.
Drama opens doors to a wide range of careers in the creative industries and beyond. Students can progress into acting, directing, stage management, set and costume design, lighting and sound engineering, and arts administration. The confidence, teamwork, and presentation skills gained are also highly valued in careers such as teaching, media, law, marketing, and public relations, making Drama an excellent foundation for both artistic and professional pathways.
