This week our primary team competed in the 3v3 Bexley borough finals with the winners representing Bexley at . The team performed excellently to win the event with scores of 8-0, 16-0 and 8-0 in the final.

Students celebrate their success in the Scholars Programme, with a graduation ceremony at SOAS University of London. They studied peace, conflict & gender with a PhD scholar and wrote 1500-word essays. We are very proud of our scholars!


Harris Garrard's Tag rugby team participated in their second mini-league event. They performed excellently winning 7-3 and 5-1, and we look forward to the final event in a few weeks time


Harris Garrard's girls rugby team competed in Kent schools' tournament recently. They were fantastic, making it all the way to the final. It was great to see over 100 primary school girls engaging in tag . Well done team!

"Something wicked this way comes..." Today, our Year 11s were treated to a trip to The Globe to see a performance of their GCSE English Literature text, Shakespeare's Macbeth!


Our Year 1 & 2s really enjoyed taking part in the football festival. The teams had great fun, scoring lots of goals and using teamwork. Thank you to for organising and we look forward to their next event!


Today, Year 8 supported by the humanities department, enjoyed a day on the Thames, taking in London’s most famous landmarks. Staff and students enjoyed playing guess the landmark and waving to tourists.


Year 9 A-Side are enjoying the sunshine and learning about plants at RHS Wisley for their 4th Character Day of the year!


Our Easter Holiday 'Listening Ear' drop-in sessions are for all HGA parents and students (primary, secondary and Sixth Form). Come along on Weds 6th April (9am-1pm) and Weds 13th April (9am-1pm) if you fancy a chat with our staff or need some support. We'd love to see you.

Harris Garrard had their first tag rugby mini-tournament this week. They put their learning from our PE lessons to good use winning both games, 5-2 and 4-2. Everyone had great fun and we look forward to the next one!


Last week our boys played a cup fixture against Fairford Academy. After a great match in wet conditions, we came out on top winning 5-2. Harris Garrard now progresses to play Danson Primary in the semi-finals.

Character & Mindfulness Days

At Harris Garrard Academy we believe that Character is Key. To that end, Character and Mindfulness Education is a strand which runs throughout the curriculum, encompassing academic lessons, out of class activities, dedicated Character and Mindfulness lessons as well as Character and Mindfulness Days.

Character and Mindfulness Days give students the opportunity to explore the world and issues beyond their regular timetabled lessons, in order to enable them to broaden and deepen their knowledge of themselves, their wider community, and the world.

In doing so, students can develop their cultural capital and the life skills they need to improve their confidence, resilience and independence. Areas which have been explored on previous Character and Mindfulness Days have included:

  • Equality, diversity, inclusion and mental health, including healthy coping strategies and managing challenge and change
  • Outdoor education, encompassing not only the importance of nature but also the environmental impact of humans
  • Careers, including target setting for the future, understanding the world of work, as well as the opportunity to work with a multinational company (GSK) to develop transferrable skills for future careers.

How we measure their impact

The impact of these days is measured through both qualitative and quantitative feedback from students, which is then analysed to ensure that desired outcomes, in terms of improving student access to a range of valuable experiences, are met, and to inform future planning, thus ensuring that these days continue to provide students with the very best knowledge and experiences beyond the classroom. 

Character and Mindfulness Days 2020-21 - what happened?

Character and Mindfulness Day 1 – Friday 9th October 2020. In direct response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the theme for our first Character and Mindfulness Day in 2020-21 was mental health and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Click HERE to download an outline of the content for the day.

Character and Mindfulness Day 2 – Tuesday 1st July 2021. Character Day 2 for KS3 was centred around outdoor education and the environement. This helped to equip all our students with an understanding of the natural world and how to protect it. Click HERE to download an outline of the content for the day.

Character and Mindfulness Day 3 – Wednesday 14th July 2021. Character Day 3 was centred around careers. We believe it is important for all students to be aware of the labour market in the surrounding area. Using the local context and the interests of each year group we planned a bespoke series of sessions.
