Virtual Learning Resources

Harris Garrard Academy reopened in September. However, to ensure that students are not disadvantaged by a loss of learning due to Covid-19, the Academy will implement a plan for remote learning under any of the following scenarios.

Scenario 1: An individual student is required to self-isolate or quarantine due to their, or a family member’s, onset of symptoms.

Scenario 2: A class, or larger group of students, is required to isolate due to exposure to a confirmed case of Covid-19.

Scenario 3: The academy is required to move to a rota model, with different year groups on site, combining face-to-face teaching with remote education.

Scenarios 1 and 2 - an individual or group of students needs to self-isolate

Students will be able to access their weekly lessons through PowerPoints and other resources in the Remote Learning section of Student SharePoint. These will be updated every Monday, for the coming week. Click HERE to view our Student Sharepoint remote learning folder.

Below is an example of how these resources will be saved. Students without access to IT or the internet will be sent home paper-based resources.

Virtual 3

In addition, students will be able to join their lesson “live”, according to their usual timetable, by joining the lessons on Microsoft Teams. They will be able to hear their teacher, and the lesson being delivered, and see their teacher’s screen.

See below an example of how live lessons will appear in students’ Microsoft Teams Calendar, where they simply need to click “Join”.

Remote learning 2

Students will be marked present, as normal, and can submit their work by emailing word processed work to their teacher or sending a picture of work they have done by hand.

Scenario 3 - Year group rota

In this scenario, the school is operating within Tiers 2-4 of the DfE’s response to Covid-19, meaning year groups will be required to move to a rota model, combining face-to-face teaching and remote learning.

Should this happen, a rota for on site learning will communicated to parents and “live lessons” will be delivered by teachers, according to students’ usual timetable. Students will be expected to “Join” their live lesson at the calendarised times, as the example above shows.

How to access lessons from home

You can download MS Teams onto your devices at home and your mobile for free.Click HERE to download a pdf guide on how to access email, OneDrive, Teams and other Office 365 apps.
