Primary Phase Resources - Learning at Home

Harris Garrard Academy is now reopen but we will update this page should some students need to return to remote working. Please do contact your child's teacher if you have any queries.

Summer Holiday Learning Packs

First we’d like to give a huge THANK YOU to all the HGA students and parents who have been working so hard with the home learning packs throughout the term. Will the new school year on the horizon we wanted to give some further resources that could be used over the break to support you and your children.

These Summer Holiday Home Learning packs, as well as being available at school, are available below for each year group to help make sure that we are able to hit the ground running when we return in September. These tasks are smaller and shorter, and will hopefully fit around a lovely summer holiday for everyone.

Click on the links below to download the pack for your year group.

Learning Packs

All children have been provided with our HGA Learning Packs. These age-specific packs have been put together to help support the students in recapping and practising core skills based on their prior in-school learning.

These packs include a daily Maths and English task as well as, in the more recent weeks, cross-curricular activities and learning to make sure our students are as provided for as possible.

If your child finds this learning challenging, or you wish to receive further support, please remember you can call us, or speak to the class teacher when they check in.

Reading

Making sure the children are read to and are reading on a daily basis is one of the most important routines for them during this time. Please encourage your child to read for at least 10 minutes a day and, if possible, talk about what they have read.

Links to other learning

If you find your child requires further support, or challenge, please do not hesitate to call the school. You can also discuss this learning with the class teachers in your weekly calls. There are also lots of resources on the internet that can help your child as well as offer further learning. The following is a short list of some of our favourites:

BBC Bitesize - daily lessons for all year groups

Effective Maths - resources you can use at home

STEM learning - home learning support for families

Let us read you a story...

We love reading here at Garrard and especially the opportunities to read aloud stories to the children. Click on the links below to go see our very own Mr Butcher, Miss Lee, Mr Sheppard and Miss Buchanan. Over the next few weeks you might see even more familiar faces!

Books about Covid-19 for children

During these challenging times, talking to our children about the current situation can be difficult. Please look at these two books designed to help support the explanations around Covid-19.

Coronavirus - A Book For Children, by Elizabeth Jenner, Kate Wilson & Nia Roberts. Illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

Book 1

My Hero Is You: How Kids Can Fight Covid-10 - a storybook

Book 2

I’d like to thank our staff, both teachers and TAs, who are working so hard to make these packs while supporting both in-school learning and those of you at home. I also send our thanks to you for your hard work, support and understanding.

From the Primary Team, Harris Garrard Academy
